A day at Mt. Seorak(Mt Sorak) where they have the best masculine beauty in mountains of Taebaek is located in the spine of Korea.

It takes about 3 hours to get to Gangwondo from Seoul. You would pass nummerous of tunnels, but it was the backwoods of town hills that needed to be crossed over and passed. The road conditions were still in the same state as they were 10 years ago. It was also the last place that culture or resources can reach because of its geographical features that is blocked by the Taebaek Mountains. But it was beloved as the best resort and tourist site long ago. Anyone would have driven 4~5 hours to go visit this place.

Mt. Seorak(Mt Sorak) is the third highest mountain that is 1,708 meters above sea level which is located through Sokcho-si Gangwondo, yangyang-gun, Inje-gun, and Goseong-gun. It is named 쁓eorak (means 쁝 high mountain covered in snow) because snow starts to fall down during Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving holidays) and melts in summer.

It is designated as the 171st national monument in 1965, the national park in 1970, and the biosphere reserve zone by UNESCO in 1982. The mountain is the museum of Korean ecosystem itself, also the place where the ecosystem is well reserved in Korea.

The mountain is categorized in the inner side, the outer side, and the southern part of Seorak. The northwestern part with Daecheongbong peak belongs to Inje-gun, which is the inner side. The eastern part where it is close to the seaside that belongs to Sokcho-si is the outer side, and the southern part is in Yangyang. The inner part is famous for its magnificent view with valleys and shape, and the outer part is more familiar to people who climbs for the cliff and falls.

Seorak, which literally translated means 쐓now-covered peaks, refers to this mountain region as well as to the national park in which these mountains are found. Mt. Seorak(Mt Sorak) is Korea's second-largest national park, and it contains Daecheongbong, Korea셲 third-highest peak.

Time and the elements have carved the local gray granite into magnificent spires and crags which rise from the crashing sea coast and soar upward from the deep valleys, at the bottom of which are emerald pools and sparkling streams of crystal-clear water.

These lush valleys are densely covered with pine and hardwood trees, and are home to over 800 varieties of plants and about 500 kinds of animals. In 1982, UNESCO designated that this area be preserved for its unique botanical features.

The 2,100 meter mountain fortress on stiff stone mountain in Seorakdong small park is the Gwongeumseong fortress. The exact year of construction is not known, but Kwon and Kim families climbed the mountain in hurry to escape, but it was almost impossible to fight against the enemies. So Kwon came down the mountain to bring rocks and stones and Kim built the fortress. It셲 named derives from both men. You can see the magnificent view of the outer side of Seorak and the endless horizon of the east sea.

You had to climb more than a hour but also there is a cable car which was installed in 1970. You can arrive at Bonghwadae (Beacon fire station) after 15 minutes of walking. Bonghwadae will show you the scene of the outer part of Seorak, majestic Ulsanbawi rock, Sokcho city, and the east sea, which is blue like a sapphire. Also you can see the different scene of Seorak in each season, any day of the year.

The temple has a history dating back to the 7th century. Sinhung Temple is the main temple of the area known as outer Mt. Seorak, or the eastern side of the National Park.
The temple was first named Hyangsong Temple and built on another nearby site in 652 A.D. by Master Jajang-yulsa. In 1645, the temple was burnt to the ground.

The last three remaining monks had a vision in which they were ordained to rebuild the temple behind the original site, where it stands now, giving the temple protection against the three main disasters of fire, water and wind.

After that, the temple got its current name Sinhung Temple, meaning "Divinely Inspired Temple." Subsequent reconstructions have occurred in various parts of the present site over time.

There are plenty of old buildings and stone works are remained in this historical temple. And the stone tower is one of old stone works that is made in the style of architecture of the unified Silla era in the 9th century as a classic stone tower with three-floor cores.
Another famous thing in the temple is the biggest bronze statue of Buddha in Korea. This Buddha Shakyamuni which is on a 2.3 meter high 13 meter diameter pedestal with 14.6 meter high body made of a hundred and 8 tons of bronze is hugging the wish of Korean reunification in its arms.

Stupas which is a stone storage to keep sunims crystals or ashes in Sinheungsa temple is a classic group that is created in a single place with past high priests stupa since 1644.
